KTA Open Taiwan 17-19 Oct 2014
Taiwan is the wind destination country in Asia, this was my first time for me to visit Taiwan and promote kitesurfing and my sponsors. KTA gave everybody the opportunity to join the competitions of TT race and freestyle for all levels and made the experience a good one for everyone.
The event was just on the weekend and we got strong windy conditions on the first day with 25-28 knots – gusty and big waves but with some spots of flat water and kickers. It started with freestyle X – a new format which is a mix between new school and old school tricks. You are allowed to attempt 8 tricks per heat and only your best new school and one old school trick counts. This format is perfect for my lovely Ozone Edge 7m 2015 with 20m line set up to give me boosting for big air and max tension to edging and slack for new school tricks in high wind. The final is a good memory for me, I had a hard fought for heat with Christan, a 13 year old boy (2nd world junior freestyle 2014). We were tied for many heats before the final but we were still pushing more than 100 % until the end and who knows how I won this.
For TT race the strong wind allowed us to hold two races each for the two fleets. I took my 7m Ozone Edge 2015 again to race and finished far ahead from second. Many people in Taiwan and Asia believe in Ozone power. Too bad the wind died down on the second day and we couldn’t find the real winner. So Christian and I shared the victory in TT race.
