September 7th to 8th, La Franqui hosted the first buggy race of the 2014 season. As usual on this spot wind conditions were perfect and we rode 9 rounds during these 2 days.
On the first day the wind blew at 20kts with gusts over 25, so the race director decided to not wait anymore to call everyone for the first briefing and to launch the first race. In these wind conditions I decide to take a Method 5m. The course is made with a long close reach leg, a big tack, a huge broad reach leg that arrives on a chicane full of bumps. The course ends by a downwind leg and were the same all day long. We rode 5 rounds on the first day.
The next day the wind kept blowing but with gusts over 35kts, but I remained very zen because the Method is so stable in this wind. The course was different than the previous day, with a lot more chicanes and a close reach leg nearby trees where performance kites are difficult to handle because of the turbulences (all pilots were surprised of the stability of the Method in this part of the course). The next leg was a broad reach and the finish leg was very close hauled. After 4 rounds the race director ended this first race of the season. I’m ranked 3rd.
Thanks to all the people who organized this race and to Kriss Cattelain for the pictures.
